Short version: most Blink issues are fixed by resetting the Sync Module rather than the individual camera, since Blink cameras route through it for cloud connectivity. Try a Sync Module power cycle first if more than one camera is affected; reset an individual camera only if the problem is isolated to that one device.

Resetting the Blink Sync Module

Unplug the Sync Module from power, wait 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in. Give it a minute or two to reconnect — the status light should turn solid blue once it’s back online. If a power cycle doesn’t fix it, there’s a small reset pinhole on the back of most Sync Module versions: press it with a paperclip for about 5 seconds until the light flashes, then set the module back up from the Blink app.

Resetting an Individual Blink Camera

For battery-powered Blink cameras, remove the battery cover and take the batteries out for about 10 seconds before reinserting them — this is usually enough to clear a frozen or unresponsive camera without a full factory reset. If the camera still won’t connect after that, most Blink camera models have a small reset button, usually recessed near the battery compartment or on the back housing, that you hold for about 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes. Battery Blink models vary slightly by generation, so check the specific camera’s manual if the light doesn’t respond as described.

Re-Adding the Camera After a Reset

Open the Blink app, go to the system the camera belongs to, and choose Add a Device, then scan or enter the camera’s serial number/QR code. The camera needs to be within range of the Sync Module during setup — pairing failures at this step are almost always a distance or interference issue rather than a bad reset. Once paired, rebuild any motion zones and notification settings, which don’t survive a reset.

If Resetting Doesn’t Fix a Recording Problem

If the camera reconnects fine but still isn’t capturing clips, a reset isn’t the right fix — see Blink camera not recording for the storage, motion-sensitivity and subscription causes that a reset won’t touch.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked

Do I reset the camera or the Sync Module?

It depends on the symptom. If a single camera is misbehaving (won’t connect, won’t record, shows offline in the app) while others on the same system work fine, reset that camera. If the entire system is down — no cameras responding, Sync Module light not behaving normally — reset the Sync Module first, since every camera on that system depends on it for cloud connectivity, and resetting individual cameras won’t fix a Sync Module problem.

Will resetting my Blink camera delete my clips?

Clips already saved to your Blink cloud subscription or a Sync Module 2’s local USB storage are not deleted by resetting the camera itself — those stay tied to your account. A factory reset does remove the camera’s pairing and local settings, so if you’re troubleshooting rather than getting rid of the device, a reset won’t cost you footage history.

My Blink camera has a solid red light and won’t reset — what does that mean?

A solid or rapidly flashing red light during a reset attempt typically indicates a failed connection attempt to the Sync Module rather than a reset failure itself. Move the camera closer to the Sync Module temporarily, confirm the Sync Module itself is online (its own status light should be solid blue), and retry the pairing process from the Blink app rather than repeating the physical reset.
