That difference translates directly into how much detail survives cropping or zooming: a 4K frame can be cropped down to a smaller region and still hold usable detail, where a 2K frame cropped the same amount starts to fall apart into visible blocks and softness.
The honest caveat is that resolution alone does not determine image quality. Crop-after-the-fact: anyone who plans to zoom into a corner of the frame during review, rather than relying on the camera's framed shot, gets real value from the extra pixels to crop into.
